Literary Anthology
Limited-edition book published annually by the Writing and Learning Centre of the Ontario College of Art + Design (now OCAD University), featuring the recipients of the George A Reid Award for essays in Liberal Studies. This particular edition includes the winning essays from two competition years.
The editor decided that the citation styles would be maintained from the original submitted works, resulting in a combination of MLA, APA, and Chicago style formats, incorporating both footnotes and endnotes. This decision made the layout of each spread particularly challenging.
Each spread is based on a symmetrical grid, with the outer columns reserved for sidenotes. The first page of each article uses a single column of text, with subsequent pages using two columns of text. The positioning of the main title changes with each article, providing an additional layer of visual interest.
All headings, subheadings, footnotes, sidenotes, pullquotes, and captions are set in Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk. All body text is set in DTF Documenta.
